Issue Position: Investing in our Communities

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2014

The communities in House District 9 -- Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, University Heights and Ward 2 and 4 in Cleveland -- all have a unique, rich heritage and character. It is our duty to celebrate and preserve these traits through efforts such as historic preservation, investment in main streets and corridors, renovation and creative reimagining.

The effects of the foreclosure crisis, the recession and aging infrastructure are visible in every community in Ohio in terms of vacant homes and lots and struggling commercial districts. However, the positive impacts of local community and economic development efforts, land banking and creative reimaging in House District 9 are also evident.

Janine Boyd understands the importance of demolition, renovation and strategic land assembly for future development and will strongly support efforts to reimagine our communities through a variety of efforts, including urban gardening, yard expansion, streetscape beautification, public access improvements, wayfinding as well as renovation of vacant properties when possible and demolition where it is not.
